Our counselling services get families out of crisis, create safety and rebuild positive relationships through empowerment of family members and breaking of negative generational cycles.
The Youth Development Zone (YDZ), was a strategic decision that Family Centre made in late 2010 to provide services in the at-risk community location of NE Hamilton, in partnership with other service providers in the area. The project was a response to the growing problems affecting youth including violence, gangs, school failure and disorganized communities. The root of these issues is family problems, which have developed over generations.
Family Centre offers a Youth Leadership Academy programme. The programme has three phases that build off of one another to help develop leadership potential one step at a time.
Phase 1: Youth Police Initiative (YPI) is a week long programme that aims to bring youth and police together in order to increase the understanding both police and youth participants have of themselves and others.
Phase 2: Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) Foundations is a 5 month after-school programme that exposes the YPI graduates to new and fun experiences, and empowers them to make positive decisions and to realize their full leadership potential through participation in community projects and activities.
Phase 3: Youth Leadership Community (YLC) membership offers the YLA Foundations graduates ongoing transformative experiences and individualized support through high-school to help them realize their unique leadership style and perform at their best in and out of school.
