The Warwick Academy Parent Teacher Association (WAPTA) is an organization of parents, teachers, alumni, staff, relatives and interested parties with the common goal of encouraging, promoting and supporting efforts of the students and programs of the school.
WAPTA is a fund-raising committee that plays an instrumental role in providing supplies and educational support to Warwick Academy. Each year WAPTA raises funds to support a wide range of school initiatives. WAPTA has raised money for instructional technology, books, playground and gymnastic equipment and classroom enhancements for our children.
In addition to its fundraising undertakings, the WAPTA President has a seat on the school’s Board of Governors.
The Constitution of WAPTA describes in detail that the purposes and functions of the organization will be:
Brief history of the organisation: Warwick Academy celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2012 which makes us the oldest continuously operating school in the Western Hemisphere. Since 1662, the School has held fast to its primary goal of offering an education of the highest international standards to a diverse student body. Generations of Bermuda families have benefited from their time at Warwick Academy. From 1662 to 1963, Warwick Academy served the community as a private school. In 1963, the School joined the public school system as one of Bermuda’s premier secondary schools. As a public school, Warwick Academy was able to broaden its reach and offer admission to students who would not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend one of Bermuda’s finest schools. In 1995, the Warwick Academy Board of Governors made the decision to return the school to a private institution so as to further expand from a secondary school to an all-age school. Today, Warwick Academy is a thriving educational institution with some 824 students ranging in age from 4 to 18. The School is proud to have a student body that is truly reflective of Bermuda’s cultural, racial and socio-economic diversity.
2. Mission of the organisation: Building on centuries of excellence, we strive to provide an international educational environment that inspires students to reach their full potential
